Architecture Review

Architecture Review

The purpose of an Architecture Review is to examine a proposed project to determine whether a practical solution can be based on existing resources, purchased components, or software developed in-house. In all cases when new systems are being considered, the emphasis should first be on reusing existing resources. If this is not practical then a third-party solution should be considered. In-house development should be proposed only as a last resort. Note that "third-party" simply means "not developed in-house." Third-party solutions may be commercial, open source, shareware, provided by another UC campus, etc.

The Architecture Review is conducted by the Architecture Review Board (ARB). The ARB will review the project and make recommendations based on what is known about existing resources and OIT's ability to support proposed solutions.

How To Do It

1

Review existing Enterprise Architecture Documents

Ensure that you are following all Standards and Guidelines

2

Are Campus Browser Standards supported?

Justification must be provided if Campus Browser Standards are not met.

3

Submit your application for review by Architecture Review Board

Contact the ARB Chairs (as of 2022: @Dana Watanabe and @Seth Roby ).

Project Proposals submitted to the ARB must be accompanied by an Architecture Review Summary document. This document contains a series of questions that will help the ARB make recommendations on the project. When completing the Architecture Review, only summary information is needed where details are available from other sources. Questions that cannot be answered at the time the Architecture Review is completed will be filled in by the ARB or other sources consulted during the course of the proposal review. (A summary of the questions that are asked in the Architecture Review document are available in the Architecture Review Decision Matrix.)
