Out-of-Date Computers
Out-of-Date Computers
Sometimes, the Dashboard will show a number Out-of-Date Computers. Here are a few observed approaches to dealing with Out-of-Date Computers:
- Update Computers Now -- You can <Right Click> on a computer and select Update Computers Now to try to force an update onto a system(s)
- Number of Out-of-Date Computers Exploded to 400 (or more) -- This is an observed behavior on the Console that I haven't been able to resolve quite yet. It seems to be related to how the local systems report their status back to the System Update Manager (SUM). All in all, the number will reduce over the next half hour, back to a more reasonable number. I'm still researching this to determine why and how it does it, and how to prevent it in the future.
- Local Machine "ON"? -- Sometimes the local system won't report back to the Console because the local system is rebooting or is turned off. Normally, a red 'X' should appear next to the name of the system, but it seems the mechanism may not perform correctly 100% of the time.
- Reinstall the Client Software -- Reinstalling the client software will force the system to update to the Console.
- Reboot the Local System -- This may or may not help, but it's an idea that can help.
