What this means

What this triggers

Asset

Indicates the link points to an asset in Cascade that is part of your site.

Causes the Destination asset and Anchor fields to display.

URL

Indicates the link point to somewhere on the web, not in Cascade as part of your site.

Causes the Destination URL field to display.

Choosing Asset for destinations within your site comes with special benefits! Learn more how Cascade treats asset links.

Destination asset and Anchor

Only displayed when Destination type is set to ‘Asset’.

destination asset and anchor data definition fields

Use the asset selector to indicate the destination of the link. You may optionally indicate a page anchor ID in the Anchor text field.

Inclusion or omission of the preceding # in the Anchor text field doesn’t matter. The templates will know what your mean either way,

Destination URL

Only displayed when Destination type is set to ‘URL’.

destination url data definition field

Enter the full URL of the destination in the text field.

Need to include an anchor ID? Just add it to the end of the URL, preceded with #.

Open link in

open link in data definition field

Same tab/window - Uses the current browser tab/window when navigating to the link destination.

New tab/window - Opens the link destination in a new tab/window.

The choice to open a link in a new tab/window vs. the same tab/window has accessibility implications. In most cases, opening a link in the same window is the correct and appropriate choice. Only in rare cases is it appropriate to open a link in a new tab/window (e.g., to preserve the state of page being linked from).
