Adding (uploading) new files

To upload a new file, such as images or pdf documents, into your Cascade site, select File from the Add Content menu.

→ Details: Navigating the interface

File Name

file name field

After selecting a file, this value of this field will match the name of the selected file. You have the option to update the name manually.

Be mindful of how you name your files! The name of the file on your computer may not be appropriate for use on the web.

→ Details: Naming assets.

Placement Folder

placement folder field

Select where you want to put the file in Cascade.

The location indicated here defaults to whatever Cascade folder you’re currently in. That may not be where you want the file to be actually located in Cascade, so be sure to check this and change the location as desired.

Updating and replacing files

Let’s say you have an image used in many places your website that you need to update. You may be tempted to upload the new image and then update each place the current image is used to point to the new image. After you do that you’d need to publish your new image and republish all the affected pages.

WAIT!!

There’s an easier way! The method described above will work, but it involved unnecessary steps and potentially leaves an unused image just hanging out in Cascade.

Try this instead

In Cascade, navigate to the image you want to replace and select Edit. You can drag-and-drop the replacement image into the edit interface (or use file chooser) and submit your changes. Now just republish your image and you’re done! No need to hunt down, update, and republish, the pages where the image appears!

This method only works as described if the name of the file in question is left unchanged. If you do need to change the name of the file, you will need to do that after submitting your edit. You’ll then need to republish the file and the pages where the file is referenced. Even in this case, you’re still saving a good number of steps!
