Overview
The Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is the way ServiceNow allows OIT to logically represent its assets, services, and the relationships between them. You can think of the CMDB as a huge database of every kind of service OIT can provide, every application OIT supports, etc., where each instance is called a Configuration Item. These CIs can be broken down further into classes, and just like any other record in ServiceNow, they have associated fields that must be managed.
