Overview
One helpful feature of the Contract Management application in ServiceNow is the ability to link Configuration Items (CIs) to a specific contract, or show which CIs are covered under a contract. For example, a contract for hardware maintenance could cover 20 different servers, and after linking them to the contract record, you can see the entire list of CIs that are covered from one place–the contract record. This is also extremely helpful in tracking expenses (i.e. how much each server is costing OIT in terms of maintenance) as well as knowing when certain CIs will no longer be serviced because of a contract cancellation or expiration. To specifically link a Cloud Configuration Item to a contract, please follow the Link a Contract to a Cloud Configuration Item guide.

- If you are adding a Configuration Item to the CIs Covered List use the Collection search field to search for the CI to bind to the contract record, otherwise, see step 7 to remove a CI from the list. Use an asterisk (*) to use wildcard search (searches for the matching text in the entire string, instead of from the beginning). In addition, you can add filter conditions to filter CIs based on a variety of characteristics.

- If you cannot find the CI that should be associated with the contract, and have verified that the CI does not exist, then you must do the following before following the rest of this guide:
- Make sure the CI does not exist.
- Reach out to whomever will be the custodian of the new CI to obtain accurate field information.
- Submit a new CI request by following the Use the Configuration Item Update Request Form or Create a New Configuration Item guides.
- Once the CI is created, you can continue following the instructions below.
- Once you find the CI to bind to the contract record, select the CI by clicking on it in the left slush bucket, and then click the right arrow to add it to the CIs Covered List (the right slush bucket).
