Overview
This guides details how to add a configuration item to the Covered CIs tab on a contract record, much like the Edit Configuration Items Covered Under a Contract guide, but specifically covers Software Contracts and making sure the proper fields are set on both the contract side and CI side.
Link a Contract to a Cloud Configuration Item
- Enter "Contract" in the filter navigator.
- Select Software Licenses under the Contract Management application to filter your contracts for software related contracts.
- Use the Search for a Contract Record guide or enter a filter in the Short Description to filter your search for a specific software license that includes cloud software (like Canvas, LastPass, ServiceNow, SecretServer, Splunk, etc).
- Example: Enter "*splunk" in the Short Description field filter and hit <Enter> to pull up contracts associated with Splunk software, and its associated cloud components.
- Click on the record number in the left-most column to navigate to the record form of the cloud contract.
- In the General section, use the dropdown to select the Hosting type as follows:
- Supplier Cloud - software hosted by a vendor or SaaS software.
- UCI Cloud - software run by UCI on a cloud platform such as AWS or run off premises from UCI.
- On Premise - software running on machines located on UCI property.
- Hybrid - components run in the cloud as well as on premises.
- Scroll down and click on the CIs Covered tab below the Related Links section.
- Click Edit... to edit the contract CI bindings.
- Use the Collection search field to search for the cloud CI to bind to the contract record. Use an asterisk (*) to use wildcard search (searches for the matching text in the entire string, instead of from the beginning).
- Example: Enter *splunk into the collection search field.

- If you cannot find the CI that should be associated with the contract, and have verified that the CI does not exist, then you must do the following before following the rest of this guide:
- Make sure the CI does not exist.
- Reach out to whomever will be the custodian of the new CI to obtain accurate field information.
- Submit a new CI request by following the Use the Configuration Item Update Request Form or Create a New Configuration Item guides, making sure that the Class field is set to Software or Application.
- Once the CI is created, you can continue following the instructions below.
- Once you find the CI to bind to the contract record, select the CI by clicking on it in the left slush bucket, and then click the right arrow to add it to the CIs Covered List (the right slush bucket).
- Click Save.
- Click on the CI added under the CIs Covered tab, which will redirect you to the CI record.
- Set the Hosting type field the same as it was set on the contract record in step 7.
- To save your changes but continue editing the CI record, right-click on the grey header area and select Save.
- To save your changes and exit the record, click Update.
