Sophos At UCI

Sophos is currently being managed under three different approaches:

  • Updates Only -- The campus has an on-campus update service that departments can choose to tie their computer systems into.  The on-campus server provides anti-virus engine and anti-virus signature updates on an on-going basis, but does not provide any management of the product on your system, other than updates to the product.  You can find out more information about licensing and software acquisition from Bob Hudack at ext. 46759 or by email at rjhudack@uci.edu.
  • Full Management -- Currently there are over 1,100 systems and servers across campus that rely upon the full anti-virus, malware and adware services in the OIT Windows Services Group.  They monitor the set-up, scanning policies, and remediation needs of the campus from central locations on campus.  Remediation of viruses on computers is handled by the Desktop Support team at ext. 42222 or through email at helpdesk@uci.edu and monitoring and remediation of virus protection for servers and systems is handled through Dennis Wiedeman at ext. 42163 or through email at dennis.wiedeman@uci.edu
  • Standalone (deprecated)-- A number of departments and individuals choose to manage the Sophos products themselves without any centralized campus management, either for engine updates and/or anti-virus signature updates.  But, people who choose this option become responsible for a rather deep understanding of the Sophos Anti-Virus product, and take on the day-to-day management of the product themselves.  You can find out more information about licensing and software acquisition from Bob Hudack at ext. 46759 or by email at rjhudack@uci.edu.
