DWH Team Status Report for 09/29/2012

 

  1. Prior Two Week Activity
    1. Kuali Financial System
      1. Complete - Staging jobs completed for CA_* and GL_* tables.
      2. Complete - Talend ETL training
      3. Complete - Analysis of chart of accounts and general ledger data model. Changes needed to be made to the Organization and Account dimension.
      4. Complete - Met with database team to discuss SQL Server capacity planning for KFS data warehouse
      5. Complete - Met with IBM to discuss capacity planning for Cognos
      6. Complete - Development of scripts to monitor any schema changes to the KFS database in Oracle. Daily scripts will notify schema changes team via email - allowing quick turnaround on modifications to jobs and SQL server schemas.
      7. In progress - Specs for Organization web service. This web service will flatten the KFS hierarchy, allowing ease of use for shadow and feeder system conversion.
      8. In progress - Extract, Transform and Load technical specifications document for chart of accounts and ledger transactions
      9. In progress - scripts to add KFS attributes to legacy data warehouse (employee, payroll). Currently analyzing how many accounts are missing after each account conversion load by the KFS team.
      10. In progress - Jobs to load post-final FS balances to DWH for KFS conversion team
      11. In progress - Development of staging jobs for UC, SH, CG tables.
      12. In progress - Development of jobs to load Organization dimension
      13. In progress - Development of General Ledger Balances data model
    2. Payroll Certification
      1. Still waiting on Accounting to complete functional testing of mandated changes of NIH (DHHS) salary cap calculation.
    3. Data Warehouse Support
      1. Modified Vendor and Invoice detail extracts for UCOP Spend Analytics
      2. Code changes to University Hills housing report - added fields to report
    4. Non-DWH Support
      1. Grace continues to help with PPS support
  2. Next two week planned activities and deliverables
    1. Install and Configure Talend Server - request for new windows VM submitted to WSG team on 8/22
    2. Work with Kaz on planning for Cognos server setup
    3. Develop a proof of concept report in Cognos for KFS organizational hierarchy
    4. Begin code changes required to convert legacy Data Warehouse authorization extracts from SAMS to new KIM web services
    5. Tentative - Changes to DWH jobs to add accounts without funds to the accountfund table (for KFS conversion team)
  3. Production support trends in terms of tickets either in JIRA or Footprints.

    1. We should have the capacity planning document from IBM soon
    2. We are still waiting on Windows 7 - Talend is slow on machines that are still on XP (Valerie, Tammy, Anh) due to the memory usage of this software

  7. Things learned, suggestions for improvements or anything else you think might be important
    1. Delays in server setups are starting to have an impact on the KFS decision support project. We are currently still waiting on a Windows and/or UNIX server for Talend, and will need a permanent Cognos dev windows server soon.
