DWH Team Status Report for 10/19/2012

 

  1. Prior Two Week Activity
    1. Kuali Financial System
      1. Complete - Scripts to load all GL & Balance dimensions (except for organization and document details)
      2. Complete - Specs for departmental ledger and balance reports
      3. Complete - Specs for transaction control report
      4. Complete - Talend server installed, configuration still in progress
      5. Complete - Development of staging jobs for UC, SH, CG tables
      6. Complete - Jobs to load post-final FS balances to DWH for KFS conversion team
      7. Complete - Develop a proof of concept report in Cognos for KFS organizational hierarchy
      8. Complete - Jobs to monitor KFS schema changes
      9. Complete - DWH Team (Except for Valerie and Manav) has upgraded to Windows 7
      10. On Hold - Development of jobs to load organization dimension - We encountered some problems with the organization table in KFS with missing hierarchies
      11. In Progress - Development of Cognos Framework for general ledger detail and balances
      12. In progress - Development organization web service. This web service will flatten the KFS hierarchy, allowing ease of use for shadow and feeder system conversion.
      13. In progress - Specs for capital asset module reports
      14. In progress - Scripts to add KFS attributes to legacy data warehouse (employee, payroll). Currently analyzing how many accounts are missing after each account conversion load by the KFS team.
      15. In progress - Development of general ledger balances data model, should be delivered this week
      16. In progress - Scripts to load general ledger entries fact and document details dimension
      17. In progress - Scripts to load staging tables KRNS, KRIM, KR, and KREW
    2. Payroll Certification
      1. Still waiting on Accounting to complete functional testing of mandated changes of NIH (DHHS) salary cap calculation.
    3. Data Warehouse Support
      1. DWH is operating well as usual, Grace is acting as primary DWH production support
    4. Non-DWH Support
      1. Grace continues to help with PPS support, range adjustments
  2. Next two week planned activities and deliverables
    1. Work with Kaz on planning for Cognos server setup - was put on hold due to data center move
    2. Begin code changes required to convert legacy Data Warehouse authorization extracts from SAMS to new KIM web services
    3. Write scripts to load 'fake' transactions into the ledger transactions table in data warehouse to test Cognos performance with larger data sets
    4. Script to copy organization dimension from DWH to transactional development database for transactional systems use

    1. Request for additional Cognos licensing coming soon - Valerie was told by IBM that they recommend at least a total of 8 cores in production. We will do so some testing to see how Cognos handles larger sets of data before deciding on capacity needed.

  7. Things learned, suggestions for improvements or anything else you think might be important
    1. It is still difficult to keep up with all of the schema changes that are still happening in KFS. Valerie will work with Simran to evaluate the changes made, and make any resulting changes to our data model as needed. Having the JIRAs to document these changes has been extremely helpful.
