Overview
UCI Decision Support Services (UCI DSS) use a combination of the Campus Data Warehouse (DWH), Cognos, and other web-based reporting and analysis tools to provide integrated, clean, timely, consistent, and documented data for reporting and analysis. Campus decision-makers and analysts can use UCI DSS to run reports in order to answer their business questions as quickly and efficiently as possible. It is a source for operational, ad-hoc and analytical reporting and carries years of historical data for trend analysis. Many administrative data subject areas are available for reporting needs including Financials, Personnel/Payroll, Billing and Accounts Receivable, Budget, Facilities, Research, Contracts/Grants, and Student Enrollment.
UCI DSS provides a number of tools for accessing data warehouse data including: IBM Cognos, Legacy Reports (BLISS), the Electronic Document Library (EDL), and eDocs Document Images. Cognos, BLISS, and EDL provide an Excel data download capability.
We provide the following services to cater to the information and reporting needs of various departments at UCI:
- Establish and maintain single source of true data (in ODS and DWH) for reporting and analysis.
- Build and maintain standard reports & dash boards to assist enterprise and department’s needs.
- Provide training for self-service reporting and analytics, supporting staff report development.
- Data education and training on appropriate use.
- Access and security.
Campus Business Intelligence utilizes the IBM Cognos tool to deliver Professional Dashboards, Standard Reports, and Cubes for doing Analysis and AdHoc Query capabilities. This tool comes with training in UCLC and we support using it against the Campus Data Warehouse or for building reports against departmental data repositories.
We are in a major transition phase where the legacy data warehouse built in 1996 and the legacy reporting tool BLISS, are being replaced with a new campus data warehouse and reporting tool (IBM Cognos). This transition started with the Kuali FS go-live in July, 2014 and we expect to be fully transitioned to the new and integrated campus data warehouse and Cognos in 2017, with the new Student Information System and UCPath go-lives.
