Summary:
OIT has rolled out a software update for EDL to improve system stability & performance. While most of the enhancements are on the backend, the user interface also received a minor update. From the end user's perspective, the most noticeable improvement is the reports now open up as PDFs by default. This make the reports much easier to save and print.
Below is a description of what you can expect to see. Click on the images to enlarge.

---|---|
Just like the previous version of EDL, when your first login a Java Security Warning pop-up box appears. Simply check the box that reads "I accept the risk and want to run this application." Also, click the blue arrow next to Hide Options and check the box that reads "Do not show this again for apps from the publisher and location above." When finished, select Run. | |
You should see the list of reports. If not, just select the Reports link (ignore the 'x for Future Use' link).
| |
You will then see another Security Warning pop-up box. Check the box that reads "Do not show this again..." & then select Allow. | |
You should see the list of reports. If not, just select the Report link (in red) and it will expand the list of reports. | |
The way you search for reports remains unchanged. Simply select the Locate icon (looks like a magnifying glass) in the upper left to perform a search. | |
When you select a report, it will automatically open as a PDF in a separate window. You can now choose to print or save the PDF, just like you would on any other website.
Note: Some IE users may see a yellow bar along the bottom center of the screen asking if they want to Open or Save the PDF. If you select Open, the document may open in either Adobe Acrobat or the browser.
Note: Firefox users will see a grey screen due to a bug in Firefox. Please see the "Troubleshooting Tips" section below for how to save the file as a PDF. |

Troubleshooting Tips:
Q: I use Firefox. When I open a report, all I see is a grey screen. How can I view the report?
A: Due to a bug in Firefox, you will need to download the report from EDL as a PDF.
Steps | Instructions | Screenshot |
---|---|---|
1 | If you want to first verify the report you're looking at, click on the Format icon (white paper icon with black arrows on it) to see it in the old format (HTML). | |
2 | A window will pop up, and PDF (or Image) is selected by default. Select HTML instead and then select the Refresh icon (with the green arrows). | |
3 | You'll now see the report in the old HTML format. | |
4 | Now, select the Download Pages icon (which is a white "paper" icon with a blue arrow pointing to the right). | |
5 | If you wish to save just the single departmental report you are currently looking at:
| |
6 | If you wish to save all the departmental reports for this month into one big file: In the pop-up window, specify All Pages, format PDF, uncheck the Compress PDF checkbox and then click the Download pages icon. | |
7 | You will see a dialog box. Select Save File and then OK. The file will appear in your Downloads folder. |
Q: I'm clicking a report but the window doesn't open.
A: If the report windows doesn't open, then it's likely that your browser is blocking pop-ups. Please partner with your local IT support (or the OIT Help Desk at x42222) for help with unblocking pop-ups.
Q: I work at the Medical Center/SOM and I see a grey screen while using IE 11.
A: This is due to a HS Group Policy restriction that disables the Adobe PDF ActiveX add-on in IE. The Adobe PDF ActiveX add-on must also be enabled for the reports to work. Please partner with your local HS IT for assistance.
Q: I work at the Medical Center/SOM and am unable to download the PDFs while using IE 11.
A: This is due to a HS Group Policy restriction that disables IE11 from downloading files. For EDL to work, the HS IT Team has implemented a virtualized instance of IE8 (via VMWare Thinapp) to support EDL. Please partner with your local HS IT for assistance.
