Overview

UCI Decision Support Services (UCI DSS) provides integrated, clean, timely, consistent, and documented data for reporting and analysis. Campus decision-makers and analysts can use UCI DSS to run reports in order to answer their business questions as quickly and efficiently as possible.

UCI DSS maintains a single source of trusted data in ODS and the Legacy Data Warehouse. Data is extracted at certain points in time and loaded into these data repositories from central administrative systems such as:

  • Financial System
  • Payroll System
  • Employee System
  • Purchasing System
  • Equipment System
  • Space Inventory System
  • USA Address Database from the US Post Office

We currently leverage a number of tools for accessing these various data sources to develop reports, including: IBM Cognos, Legacy Reports (BLISS), the Electronic Document Library (EDL), and eDocs Document Images.

The Campus Business Intelligence team has launched a project to standardize UCI’s various data repositories into one Enterprise Data Warehouse (logical or physical) and to consolidate the various reporting tools into one. The IBM Cognos tool will be the new standard for delivering Professional Dashboards, Standard Reports, and Cubes for doing Analysis and AdHoc Query capabilities. This transition started with the KFS go-live in July, 2014 and we expect to be fully transitioned to the new and integrated campus data warehouse and Cognos by 2017, with the new Student Information System and UCPath go-lives.

Requesting Access

  • Access to services is based on your campus roles & responsibilities are is only available with a UCINetID. DUO second factor authentication may be required for some data access.
  • To gain access to systems related to your role, contact your Departmental Security Administrator (DSA) or call the OIT Helpdesk at x4-2222 or email oit@uci.edu.
  • VPN may be required once you are granted access.

COGNOS HOURS OF OPERATION: generally available 24x7, except for emergencies and the following scheduled maintenance windows:

  • Mondays 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
  • Saturdays 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM

LEGACY DATA WAREHOUSE: generally available XXXXXXXX

KFS DECISION SUPPORT:

Decision Support Applications may also be unavailable for individual subject areas due to maintenance related to those specific areas. Please contact the OIT Helpdesk at x4-2222 for further information.
