The items listed on this page relate to general Cascade usage and don’t apply specifically to the Aldrich templates; you may find them useful regardless which Cascade template you’re using.

Proliferating Data Definition groups

Many Data Definitions contain groups of fields that can be proliferated / repeated / multiplied to suit your content needs. These groups can be identified by the plus button in the group title bar.

add new group button

This button is labeled for screen readers as Add new group.

For example, a Data Definition may include a field group for defining a link. Need more than one link? Click the plus button and Cascade creates an additional link group for you below the current one.

When new groups are created, additional buttons will appear in the group title bar.

Reordering groups

Use the up- and down-arrow buttons to reorder your groups.

move up and move down buttons

These buttons are labeled for screen readers as Move up and Move down, respectively.

Deleting groups

Use the X button to delete / remove a group.

remove button

This button is labeled for screen readers as Remove.

How links work in Cascade

Cascade handles links differently depending on how the link destination type.

Internal links point to assets within Cascade and are defined using asset choosers.

Cascade asset chooser

While Cascade may allow you to select an asset in a different Cascade site, doing so is not recommended. Use external / URL links in these cases for best results.

Some special benefits of using internal / asset links are:

  • If you move the destination asset, Cascade will follow it and update any links to it automatically (republishing required).

  • You can determine which assets link to a particular asset by using the Relationships feature.

External link are those that point to some destination on the web that is not part of your site. They are defined using simple text fields. Nothing special here.
