A Resource Group is a team assigned to provide a service in support of end users. Resource Groups is typically a group of people working in the same department under the same manager but interdepartmental groups are sometimes assembled to address a short-term issue or represent a special interest. Within OIT, Resource Groups are usually referred to as "teams" and are sometimes a collection of teams organized into a reporting hierarchy within an OIT division.
Note that Resource Group names should never include references to parent organizations. This information is stored in the database and can be retrieved from there if necessary.
Resource Group names should follow the form of:
{group_name} [({nickname})] [ - (client)]
Where:
{group_name} | The official full name of the group as it appears on the group's organizational chart. This should be the full, formal name of the group (e.g., "Windows Service Group" or "Student Life & Leadership") rather than a nickname, abbreviation, or acronym ("WSG" or "SLL"). While nicknames and abbreviations may be meaningful to those who frequently work with the group, they are not always so apparent to others who are not as familiar with the group's purpose. |
---|---|
{nickname} | Nickname, abbreviation, or acronym for the group. The nickname is optional and should always be enclosed in parentheses to separate it from the full name. |
{client} | The name of the primary beneficiary of the group's work. This is optional and should only be used to eliminate any confusion about the primary responsibility of the group or to eliminate duplication of group names. For example, if several groups are named "IT Support" then include the department name as the owner. For example: IT Support - (DUE), IT Support - (Graduate Division), etc. The owner should always be enclosed in parentheses and separated from the rest of the CI name by a hyphen. |
