- Adcom's custom Thunderbird package should already be installed on your machine. If you do not see a Thunderbird icon on your desktop, please put in a request to Adcom Desktop Support to have the "Thunderbird package" installed on your system.
- You must have a folder in your "My Documents" folder called "thunderbird_profile" (do not use quotes)
- Double click your "My documents" folder on your desktop.
- Click the File Menu, click "New" then click "Folder" to create a new folder.
- Rename the folder to "thunderbird_profile" (You do not need the quotation marks)
- You will need approximately 30 minutes - 1 hour of your time to convert your old Eudora mail to thunderbird. (Less so if you don't have a lot of e-mail stored)
- Thunderbird will convert your old Eudora Mail, and Eudora Address Book. Unfortunately at this time Thunderbird will not convert previously set Eudora Filters.
Instructions:
- Close/Exit Eudora if it is open.
- Change you e-mail delivery point to NACS by completing the following steps:
- Log on to http://phwww.cwis.uci.edu/cgi-bin/phupdate.
- Select "NACS Mailbox Services"
- Click "Submit Change Request"
- Click Start, Programs, Mozilla Thunderbird Mozilla Thunderbird to open Thunderbird
- The Import wizard may automatically show up. If you do not see the picture below, Click the "Tools" menu, then click "Import"
- The following step may take a long time (anywhere from a few minutes min - 1 hour (in rare cases more)) depending on the amount of e-mail stored in Eudora:
- Select Eudora and Click Next.
- After mail is imported, import your old address book (if applicable)
- In Thunderbird, go to Tools\Import
- Go to import wizard to import Eudora Address Book
- Go through import wizard again to import Eudora addresses.
- Do NOT import Eudora Settings. The server settings will automatically get setup when you start thunderbird.
- In Thunderbird click the "Tools" Menu, Account Settings, and type in your Full Name in the "Your Name" field
- In Thunderbird click Tools, Options, Composition. Click the "Addressing" tab. Check the "Directory Server" box and select "UCI Phone Book" in the dropdown list. This allows UCI name searches in the "To" field of a new message.
- **Laptop Users only: Click Tools, Click Account Settings, Click "Offline & Disk Space" on the left side.
- Check the two boxes that say "Make the message in my Inbox available when I am working offline" and "When I create folders, make them available for offline use"
- This ensures old e-mail is available when you are not connected to the network.
- *Important* Please send an e-mail to Jeremy at jpaje@uci.edu to confirm you have switched over to Thunderbird. You will need to enter your UCInetID password the first time you send e-mail. You may check the box that says "User Password Manager to remember this password" to avoid having that box show up again.
