  • What's being backed up? – The contents from "C:\MegaTrakPro Files\Backups"
  • Where are these files copied to? – Onto an attached USB thumbdrive in"E:\backups".
  • How is this directory copied? – A script is used by Windows Scheduler to perform a copy of the directories and files.
  • How often are the backups taking place? – 2:15am and 11:15am
  • Do I need to verify that the backups are taking place? – Periodically. Check the thumbdrive using Windows File Explorer to verify that folders and files are present in 'E:\backups' and have today's date.  The fastest way to open Windows File Explorer is to use your mouse and right-click the 'Start' button and select 'Explore' from the grey context menu that appears and then browse to the E: drive to view the files.
  • What if the USB thumbdrive is unreadible? - Thumbdrives do wear out eventually, so you would need to replace it with a new thumbdrive when this happens.  After inserting the new thumbdrive, you may have to format it and afterwards make sure you create a folder on the new drive called 'backups'.
  • What if the MegaTrak server crashes and doesn't reboot? - In the event of a failure such as this, you should immediately call the OIT Help Desk and they will forward your issue to Desktop Support Services.  If the server is not recoverable, then we will use the backup files on the thumb drive to restore MegaTrak to a healthy state.
